Artsoup, January 2022

Well 2022, here we are, who can believe that?

The MOST exciting news is that my motivational cards are published and available for sale. They are based around my healing journey, where I used creative expression as a self help tool. My Art Therapist diploma enabled me to express myself when I actually could not speak, when words were simply not enough.

That is why I totally get it.

I have only published 100 packs, including 44 cards and an instruction booklet and they are selling fast. They are based around a painting I did when I was a beginning teacher. They are bright, vibrant and heavily textured - and include images of the koru, a Maori symbol representing new life, spiritual growth and progress. I was required to teach Tikanga Maori at the time.

The black lines are the power pylons I drove past as I travelled to work along the southern motorway in Auckland towards my job at Bombay School. Also included are images of the Auckland Harbour bridge, which was significant to me at the time.

I now realise the black lines also represent my containment. I understand why many subsequent paintings had images escaping the canvas.

The 44 colourful cards are photographs of parts of the painting. Hence the painting represents your whole self and the individual photographs, parts of the whole.

The words have come from my insights and healing along the way. I intuitively matched the images with the words. It was when I asked my family to each choose a card and they selected the one about them, that I knew I was onto something.

When I realised my insights were universally applicable and could help others, I decided to self-publish.

This journey and process has finally reached fruition. It has been massive!

I am beyond proud, and grateful for all the people along the way who have assisted to make this possible.
